I am only getting a minimum of 17 moves.
Abi moves south once, then east three times. Danni and I move west twice. Matt and Jonas move east four times, tether, north two times, west two times, and north three times.

The rest of my plan has Abi/Tina/Danni moving South twice and staying there. Matt/Jonas go East to pick up Brandon and then go North, West, North to meet up with us, ending in a center square.

Logically it is better to meet in the center square of the maze so I agree with your plan hun.
