Pre game chat is one of the most frustrating aspects of games for me. I prefer just waiting until we have tribes so that I can have a few focused conversations with players who I know I'll be together with at the start of the game.
Still, I signed on AIM last night so that I was available to contact. What surprised me was that nearly everyone, or perhaps everyone, who checked in was also online. And many of these accounts were alias, making it more impressive. Once we get tribes, I'll initiate IMs, but for now I'm letting the more enthusiastic players IM me. I feel as if everyone else is also waiting for tribes, as I sat on AIM for over four hours and only received messages from one other person.
This person was Malcolm, who I spoke to for about 3 hours. All of his messages were full of intelligent thought and insight into the game. We discussed our general game philosophy and agree on many different aspects of it, including the difficulty associated with pre game chat. Apparently both of us placed Malcolm and Matt in the top 3 for our character choices, so we have similar interest in character selection. At first, I felt almost intimidated by his messages and feared I wouldn't be able to have a regular conversation with him and that we'd simply be trying to outmatch one another by exchanging longer paragraphs of overanalysis into Survivor ORGs.
However, our conversation did become more down-to-earth. At the end of the conversation, we agreed to work together, and I'm completely up for it seeing as we get along so well and I haven't yet spoken to anyone else. Our alliance can be the baseline for my strategy in the game.
